~predance combo classes
Our PreDance Combo Classes are for our youngest students, ages 3-7.
These are a combination of pre-ballet, pre-tap and in levels A-B,
elementary tumbling, in level C, some pre-jazz. For a more extensive description of the
program, click here.
~open division classes
We offer Open classes in ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop.
Dancers are placed in class according to age, ability and previous
training level. Teacher evaluation will determine student's level
and placement. Age requirements for Open classes vary as noted on
our schedule but basically are for students first grade through adult.
~competition/performance groups
MDC
has
3 levels of groups
who compete
and have additional performance opportunities for the 2011-12 season.
We will have Team level groups to compete in jazz, tap or hip-hop.
Dancers may elect to be on more than one team. At full Company level
all dancers compete in jazz and lyrical/contemporary.
Dancers at Company level can also choose to audition for tap, hip-hop
and musical theater groups.
For the ballet dancer looking for more competitive options we are
bringing back our Ballet Ensemble. Along with the additional
performance avenues comes commitment to take more technique and ballet
classes. The groups compete 2-3 times per year as well as perform in
our Team Showcase in addition to being part of our June recital.
Our Company and Pre-Pro dancers are part of our holiday Nutcracker
benefit performance.
Placement is by audition.
Our auditions for the 2012-13
school year will be held at MDC in June. Pre-registration is required to
audition. You can go to our Competition
Groups
page for more information including complete audition details.
~preprofessional ballet program
For the more serious ballet student we offer a PreProfessional ballet
program. A major part of ballet is the discipline involved with
the art form. Within this program there is a more defined dress
code and code of etiquette than in our Open Division classes. To
achieve success in any PreProfessional ballet program, a student must be
an enthusiastic, dedicated dancer willing to work hard, apply the
corrections given and always move forward with their technique.
These students have the opportunity to perform in our holiday Nutcracker
performance in addition to our year end recital. To extend their
movement base our upper level PrePro students also have instruction in
Modern dance technique. Our upper level PrePro students will have
the opportunity to compete in ballet by auditioning for our Ballet
Ensemble. Audition information for our competitive group can be
found on our Competition Groups
page. Auditions for the rest of our PrePro program is done
during a regular class. Call to set up a time to attend a class.
O
~adult classes
We always try to have at least 1 or 2 adult classes on the schedule.
They vary from year to year and have included ballet, hip-hop, jazz, tap, Pilates
and Zumba. Check our schedule for our current options. Tuition
for our adult classes is a little different from our other classes.
Classes can be paid by the week at $10 or a 10 class card can be
purchased for $90. Adults with children enrolled at
MDC get a
$20 discount on the 10 class card.
~summer classes
During the summer we offer a short sampler of classes. For the
summer of 2012 we will have a 6 week session
in July/August. Click HERE
for the summer schedule. Summer registration for 2012 begins online May
10.
~private and semi-private lessons
Private and semi-private classes are available by special arrangement
with our individual instructors. The fees run $18-$30 per half
hour and are paid directly to the teacher not MDC. Students may
take dances learned in private lessons to competitions at the
instructor's discretion but only if they are also taking at least one
weekly dance class in their discipline to keep up with their technique.
Private lessons alone are not adequate to maintain or advance technique.
Dances learned in private lessons are not guaranteed a spot in our main
recital but are invited to perform in a Solo Showcase. Only our
graduating Senior students are invited to perform their solos in the
main recital.
